The Waunakee Community School District Board of Education (BOE) approved a November 2022 referendum planning process. Information on the upcoming referendum planning and building process will be made available on this webpage throughout 2022 and 2023.

The Waunakee Community School District is pleased to announce voters of the district approved both referendum question 1 and referendum question 2 on the ballot. View the results of the November 8 election here.

 

Exciting progress from our Vogel Bros. Building Company project team at the Heritage Elementary School site!

 
The exterior foundation walls and elevator pits have been poured. They have made significant progress in the Kindergarten wing and the Gymnasium, bringing them up to subgrade level as well as completing the underground plumbing and electrical work.

Referendum Design and Construction Updates

Heritage Elementary Groundbreaking Ceremony - May 18, 2023

A groundbreaking celebration occurred on Thursday, May 18, 2023, to celebrate the beginning of construction on the new 152,000 square foot (sf) state-of-the-art school building at 6271 Woodland Dr, Waunakee. Attendees included members of the Board of Education, local officials, community leaders, design and construction partners, as well as faculty, staff, and students from Heritage Elementary School.

The new school building, to be completed in the fall of 2024, will support early childhood, kindergarten, and first through fourth grades. The new building features modern classrooms designed to support the latest in educational technology, four flex cafe spaces, and a full-size gymnasium. The building has been designed by Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA), in partnership with the school district and Heritage Elementary School Visionary Team, students, and school staff. Vogel Bros. Building Co. is the Construction Manager and builder.

Preserving History

It was a very special evening at Heritage Elementary School. We welcomed community members who have a long history within the walls of our schools. They've touched thousands of students in Waunakee, and reached far more families that we can account for. 

This group came together to help in the planning stages of preserving history, artifacts, and items from the Heritage Elementary School and how this can be incorporated into the new buildings of Heritage and the Middle School.

Heritage Elementary - September 2023 Progress

Earlier this year, Heritage Elementary School students spent a portion of their day designing their dream schools. Students read the Chris Van Dusen story “If I Built A School.”  Following the story, students drew their very own new Heritage Elementary School.
