Introducing Our Instructors Hailey Bond
Hailey is a 7th grade science teacher in Waunakee who started teaching in Waunakee approximately 5 years ago after graduating from the University of Colorado-Boulder and Regis University in Denver. When she’s not teaching, Hailey loves to read, hike, and play with her pitbull-mix, Siggi. Hailey participated in plays and musicals when she was younger and is excited to take on this awesome opportunity! Hailey is looking forward to getting to know the students and seeing the amazing play they will produce!
Rachel Burkard
Ms. Rachel Burkard is thrilled to be offering an Art and Spanish fusion course this summer! One of the best ways to learn a language is to have a personal memory or connection to it and what better to do that than for students to create original art that they can show off to their family and friends afterward!
Ms. Burkard teaches Spanish 1 and 3 at Waunakee HS where she loves connecting with her students for language and culture learning. Ms. Burkard has participated and directed summer programs in the past and looks forward to teaching this class within the Waunakee Community School District.
Mandy Longtin
Mandy teaches fifth and seventh grade art for the Waunakee Community School District. She enjoys watercolor painting and drawing in her personal time and is looking forward to the opportunity to teach it to students.
Autumn Pedersen
Autumn has been teaching English for 6 years and has a degree in Secondary Education for English specifically. She currently teaches at Waunakee Middle School as an ELA teacher. Autumn loves creative writing and seeing what students come up with. Autumn believes students are super imaginative and want to share and would like to give students this opportunity to share their creations.
Brittany Phelps
Brittany is the LMTC Director at Prairie Elementary. She loves working with and teaching young children. Brittany has a degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State and a masters in Library and Information Studies from UW Madison. She has taught in Iowa and Wisconsin, Ecuador and China. She has taken methods classes on how to teach art, science, reading and more. Brittany loves to cook, camp, swim, sing in choir and do various arts and crafts.
Megan Steeger
Megan has been teaching for 16 years in 4k, kindergarten and 1st grade. She currently teaches kindergarten at Heritage Elementary. She lives in Waunakee with her husband and 4 children. Megan is excited to be part of the afternoon summer program this year and looks forward to spending the week playing and learning with the students.
Jessica Stortz
Jessica is a Nationally Board Certified instructor who has been teaching for twenty four years total and proudly joined the Waunakee Community School District in 2019 as the art teacher at Heritage Elementary. Jessica has also been involved in Village of Waunakee and Create Waunakee community art projects such as “Paint the Plow” and the “Stronger Together” mural, receiving the Bright Light award in April 2023.
